Wish List

What we need – our wish list:

Our Mission is to establish a truly inclusive, multi-disciplinary school with a holistic educational programme (regardless of disability).

To achieve this objective we need bigger premises in order to:

  • Provide this service to more children as there is a need in the community;
  • Run additional programmes e.g. technical, pre-school facility - early intervention is very important, and a special care facility;
  • Have smaller classes - providing more individual attention;
  • Improve our service to learners, parents and community resulting in achieving our mission of developing an independent, productive and moral citizen;
  • Provide an educational programme which also caters for those learners in the "grey-area". That is the learner who is moderately intellectually disabled who is in the category of "high-drop-out".
  • Have shorter waiting periods to acquire the services of other service providers e.g. Social Welfare and other specialist support services for our parents and learners.

We wish to …

  • build a new school classroom (to offer sufficient space for 180 learners)
  • fill the lack of facilities (including extra-mural facilities)
  • employ 'specialist' staff
    • teaching assistant for every class
    • social worker
    • physiotherapist
    • speech therapist
    • psychologist
    • two extra nurses according to the …
  • offer a remedial teaching programme to promote inclusion
  • buy the following equipment
    • scanner
    • laptop
    • Digital Overhead Projector
    • administrative vehicle

School Bus

At Blouvlei we are responsible for transporting 180 learners each day. Unfortunately two of these vehicles are old, and the cost for maintenance is exorbitant.

One of these is a minibus with a seating capacity of only 14 learners. The larger school-bus type vehicle is much safer; as the minibus is used in the taxi-industry of South Africa, and we are soft targets to the gangs and syndicates involved in high-jackings.

Because the vehicles are small it means several trips each morning and afternoon. Therefore some children arrive especially early and some leave extra late. It also means that children are often waiting alone at home to be picked up, as their parents have to leave for work as well.  Another implication is that the teaching and learning experience is impacted upon.

Blouvlei needs to raise funds for one 32 seater-bus. The increased seating will alleviate the number of trips, thereby reducing impact on teachers and learners, as well as making us less vulnerable for high-jackings.

Cost: per vehicle plus adaptation - R 340 860.00 + 10% = R374,946.00

The desired vehicle is a TATA Bus LP713S
