Sport and extra-mural activities form an important part of the learning process.

SPORT
All learners take part in sport as it helps fine and gross motor co-ordination. Sport also has great social benefits teaching learners teamwork. Participation in sport has proven to be one of the best ways to help intellectually impaired people gain self confidence and physical dexterity. Daily training is the key, which opens the door to social acceptance and the ability to participate.

Blouvlei School provides the following sport activities:

  • Athletics
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Dancing
  • Netball
  • Soccer
  • Swimming
  • Table tennis
  • Karate/Taekwondo

Successes:

  • Two Blouvlei learners represented the school in the South African national cricket team.
  • Pupils also took part in the 1995 Special Olympics Summer Games in the USA and the 1997 Special Olympics Winter Games in Canada.
  • In 2004 Blouvlei athletes won three Gold, one Silver and one Bronze in the National Athletics Championships. 

extra-mural activities

  • Other extra-mural activities include choir and percussion. Learners have participated in concerts, cultural festivals and the Very Special Arts Festival.
