Our need for fundraising
Blouvlei School is struggling to survive in a harsh environment. The school receives a subsidy from the Western Cape Department of Education but this subsidy has been drastically reduced in recent years (in 1998/99 by 30%, in 1999/2000 by a further 20% and currently the total state contribution amounts to 45% of the operational budget) and is expected to get even smaller.
These subsidy cuts mean the school is relying on fund-raising activities and school fees just to cover the day to day running costs. This is before financing maintenance, new equipment or improved facilities.
Therefore, Blouvlei School is embarking on a major fund-raising drive to halt this decline and buy the vehicles and equipment needed for the school to continue providing a high standard of training and care to the Blouvlei learners.
